Dirty Coal in Australia.
Recently I watched an interview between Peter Diamandis (Executive Chairman of the X Prize Foundation) and Vishen Lakhiani of Mindvalley where they were discussing the idea that the recent arrest of the French CEO and European GM of UBER in France is the result of what, Peter describes as ‘Old systems and companies putting pressure on Governments to protect their interests.’
Peter suggested that as new systems out perform their older counterparts there would be a certain amount of defensiveness and friction, however, eventually the older systems would die away.
It made me think of a recent Greenpeace video I watched on the influence of dirty coal in government here in Australia. Hopefully, I thought, this too is an outdated industry desperate to protect itself and its interests. And that it will start to fall away in the face of new sustainable sources of energy which will over the coming years, out perform its fossil fuel forefathers. Once new technologies and systems become affordable, a mass migration is not only likely but a foregone conclusion. I just hope it’s not too late.
You can watch the Greenpeace video here.
I thought i’d take a look into the developments in the Adani Carmichael Coal Mine here in Australia. It seems that support for the mine is very shaky and yet the Government is still very much behind the mine. You can read some up to date articles in the following posts and get involved through the stop Adani website here or find out which companies here in Australia are supporting the mine and call them to desist through the market forces website here.
it seems that Coal is very much in the pocket of our Australian Government. It does provide jobs but that is a narrow point of view to take considering “the clear and consistent international market signal against expanded coal production” as written by Dr. Ben Habib for W.A.T.C.H. and the goal movement towards a clean and sustainable future.
Scott Morrison recently asked the public to let Children be Children. How can we when the Scientific evidence suggests that their children will have to live with Global changes in the atmosphere that will force massive ecological and sociological shifts.?
What really strikes me in all of this debate is that, if you can create jobs and produce energy in a cleaner, cost effective way. Then why wouldn’t you..?
